Around 100 local Tajik firms and agencies met Thursday with a visiting annual trade mission from Kazakhstan for their annual Tajik-Kazakh business forum in the Tajik capital Dushanbe.
Tajikistan’s Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Gulchekhra Bozorova said the forum marks a step toward restoration of economic and trade relations between states of the former Soviet Union.
"The main emphasis in the relationship of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan is on the qualitative development and deepening of economic and trade cooperation," the Tajik independent news agency Asia-Plus cited an organizer as saying.
The third event jointly organized by Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Kazakhstan’s National Agency for Export and Investment Kaznex, along with the Kazakh
Ministry of Industry and Trade, aims to identify ways to deepen economic integration along with cutting deals.
The Tajik trade official pointed out that Kazakh goods and services to Tajikistan rose by 49 percent in 2011 compared with two years earlier while noting that Tajik exports of processed products to Kazakhstan increased by 49 percent during the same period.
Negotiations during the event mainly focused on engineering, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, and food products.
