Tajikistan’s transportation ministry announced on Friday that it is temporarily suspending trains heading to various Russian locations due to low ridership numbers during the summer.
Trains from the Tajik capital Dushanbe to the Russian capital Moscow will be suspended starting June 21, while trains from Dushanbe to southwestern Russian city Saratov will be suspended on June 23.
Trains linking Dushanbe and the Tajik city Kanibadam, in the northern province Sughd, will also be suspended beginning June 20.
The transportation ministry did not say when the routes will be re-opened to passengers.
The ministry will consider re-starting trains on these routes when there is more demand for the service, the Avesta.tj news agency reported a ministry source as saying.
