Kazakh police officers are being ordered to lose weight

Monday, April 30, 2012 - Kazakh police officers must lose their fat bellies or else will be fired according to new regulations, a local Kazakh news agency revealed on Monday.

The order comes following a meeting held by the interior ministry, the deputy head of the Astana interior ministry’s human resources department told the Tengrinews.kz news agency.

Astana is the Kazakh capital.

“A meeting was recently held in the interior ministry where a task was given to heads of interior authorities: the employees whose physical condition does not comply with the standards will be fired,” Tengrinews.kz quoted Alpysbai Tashmagambetov as saying.

“That’s why all the employees have to become physically fit and get rid of their bellies,” he added.

Three thousand of Astana’s law enforcement authorities must undergo a performance review, during which they will be judged on their fitness and appearance.
