Rustam Emomali, the 25-year-old eldest son of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, was elected president of Tajikistan’s Football Federation (FTT) on Thursday.
His election coincided with a presidential reshuffle of senior government officials the same day.
Rustam Emomali, who was formerly vice-president of the federation, replaced Suhrob Qosimov.
The election was held in Dushanbe by TFF members, reportedly with representatives of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in attendance, according to the AsiaPlus.tj news agency.
Until recently, Rustam Emomali played as a striker for the national champions soccer club Istiqlol Dushanbe. He is also an advisor for the national soccer team.
The president’s son is a deputy in the League of Tajik Youth and a member of the Central Committee of the pro-presidential People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan.
He is also chief of the country’s customs service department to tackle smuggling and customs violations.
He previously headed a governmental department for the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises.
