Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov awarded grain farmers from the Lebap province with a car for being the only Turkmen district to surpass grain requirements imposed by the state, local media reported Monday.
The car was presented to local administrators overseeing the productive province, Turkmenistan.gov.tm reported.
“Taking into account high results achieved by the grain-growers in Lebap Province, their amazing labor productivity, the Turkmen president has signed a decree...to present a Cadillac Escalade to the administration of the province for official use,” the state-operated news agency reported.
Under Turkmen ordinances, each province must produce 320,000 of wheat per year, or 1.6 million tons for the whole country.
Lebap Province exceeded the order by 30,000 tons.
The reclusive state of 5.2 million is primarily dependent on gas revenues to buttress its economy.
