IBM to aid Kazakh firm in locating gold

New technologies will improve Kazakh firm's capacity to zero in on gold

Friday, July 20, 2012 - International computing firm IBM will assist a leading gold producer in Kazakhstan with increasing profitability and improving gold location techniques, IBM said on Friday.

IBM will provide JSC Altyntau Resources with a new business analytics system to achieve these ends.

“IBM’s business analytics technologies will give us the ability to quickly react to changes in gold production and make informed decisions about our mining operations,” Altyntau Resource’s head of planning and financial analysis, Kazhibekov Ilyas, said in the IBM statement.

“From the very moment of our company’s inception, we set ourselves the goal of becoming industry leaders by using the latest technologies and approaches to increase gold yields, decrease operational expenses, and ensure maximum profitability.”

The new business analytics system will be rolled out in several phases, IBM notes. The first phase will concern the company’s financial planning processes and bring them in line with international standards.

IBM has an office in Kazakhstan’s business capital Almaty.
